What a busy weekend! First there was cropping at PaperTales on Friday night with my friend Sarah, and Nessa and Michelle were also there. I managed to get all the favors for the baby shower done (YEAH!!!!) and all the class kits for today done as well......the bad news is that I did not get home until 1:30am!
I will try to get a picture and post the favors-- they turned out very cute-- kind of a scraplift of two of our teachers-- using those mini comp books from Walgreens or the Dollar Store and covering them with paper (ala Lisa) and putting little paper purses on the cover (ala Andrea). And I used paper that matched the shower invitations from Chatterbox--- if you have not tried their paper, it is a DREAM to work with-- very different weight and texture, but covers beautifully.
So Saturday was run around and get errands and clean up the yard day. We had intended to get up early and go to the Eastern Market, but well, we overslept. And then Ken discovered that I was WAYYYYYY overdue for an oil change, so we went and took care of that. In his words, I am the person who needs a lease car. So, being that it was going to be almost 11am before we got downtown, we opted to make our second visit to the Grosse Pointe Farmers market (it starts at 9an, so it would not be quite as picked over). There is a perennial farm that comes in from North Branch with just the most beautiful plants, and the owner is incredibly helpful and nice, and we had bought two plants two weeks ago (Datura that smells like lemon meringue, and mullein) and this week we bought a hibiscus that is actually hardy in Michigan, and a really cool Black Eyed Susan that looks more like a mum and gets huge blooms. Have I mentioned how much I love flowers?! Then we stopped at Allemon's to get what I have termed the barley "wafer" for the pond to clear up the algae-- I would like to be able to SEE our fish. Ken says that it's a barley "mat", but I prefer wafer, so wafer it will be!
Our contractor came over for us to review what still needs to be done/fixed/completed before final inspection-- this project has been stressing us out for YEARS--literally. But there is an end in sight....I think. :( On the upside, the bathroom is 92% complete-- and I actually took a shower in my beautiful new HUGE shower--- I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!! Now if I could just figure out the high tech new fangled thermostat so I could take an air-conditioned shower in this 90 degree heat. Welcome to Michigan-- 60 to 90 in one week-- so much for spring!
And on to Sunday-- frantic running around to get everything ready for my sister-in-law's baby shower. Have I mentioned how fabulous my husband is? I made the cake adorable new sandcastle pan from Williams Sonoma:
and I made the appetizers, but after that Ken made EVERYTHING- 4 quiches, potato salad, grilled veggies-- he even served dessert. I am one lucky girl!!!!! And the shower went well, everyone seemed to have a good time, even despite the 92 degree heat-- which was a little disappointing-- I was hoping everyone could be outside, but it was just too hot to be out for long.
And, my brother in law received one hilarious gift-- the Po-Knee-- apparently this was featured on Oprah, and Aunt Nancy came up with one of her classic gifts for Eric - see it here:

And then my awesome hubby pulled it out again-- my favorite dessert in the world-- homemade key lime pie-- to celebrate my 31st birthday- YIKES!!! Am I really that old?!?!??!?!
And he got me 3 supercool filters for my camera (I am seeing a lot of playing in my future) and a hot rock massage-- I have wanted one of these for soooooo long-- I am so excited! And lots of other fun stuff too. Mom even made an LLBean-like tote out of paper --- I will try to get a picture posted soon!
And now it's Monday, lunch is almost over, back to work. *SIGH*
